How to Turn on Your “Switch”

I read a blog post on a health website the other day that read as follows:

“I’m a 44 year old single, professional woman, no kids, no financial or big problems in my life. I know what I should be doing to better myself in different aspects of my life, I say to myself I’m going to do it and then I get home lay in the couch, watch TV, eat junk food and do nothing!!! I isolate myself, don’t want to call anybody, don’t want anybody to call me, I just want to be left by myself! I’m angry, frustrated, I know what I need to do even to get out of this depression but I don’t do it.  I look at my past and it hurts to look at my mistakes.  I have not shared this with anyone.  Not even my best of friends. So what’s wrong with me?  Can anybody help?”

Sound familiar?

Now, there are some of you reading this who will say, “Are you kidding me? Suck it up and get your lazy ass of the couch because no one feels sorry for you!” On the other hand, some of you might sympathize with her by saying, “Poor girl, I know how you feel, I’ve been there and I hope it gets better.”

Regardless of which way you respond to it, the truth is, we all will go through a time in our lives when we question our drive, determination and commitment to ourselves. It’s also the same time we find out what we are really made of. Most of us tend to rely on a host of exterior factors to help us get through such a time. Some use faith, others use friends and family, and some unfortunately turn to food, drugs or alcohol.

So what separates those who are able to navigate this period and those who buckle. It’s called “the switch,” and it’s all about taking action.

Many people have seen the movie, “The Secret.” If you have, you know it’s all about the law of attraction. The premise that, “what you think about, you bring about.” Yes, the law of attraction is a very powerful force in our lives and it is absolutely true, but the one factor “The Secret” completely failed to mention was that along with those positive thoughts, you must ACT on them.

It’s unfortunate, but that movie has made millions of people believe that if they just get up every morning and think good thoughts, that life will bring them what they want. I’m just gonna hot you over the head with this, but they WON’T without corresponding ACTION!

The woman in the above blog post pretty much summed up where she went wrong. She said “I know what I should be doing to better myself in different aspects of my life, I say to myself I’m going to do it and then I get home lay in the couch, watch TV, eat junk food and do nothing!!!” She knew but she did nothing about it. Her switch was completely turned off! Knowing and doing are two completely separate actions, and one must accompany the other in order to see transformations happen in your life and turn your switch from OFF to ON.

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it. Today you must take action, turn your switch on and make one of three choices:

Give up, give in, or give it all you’ve got. What’s your choice?
