Successful TV Hosts Get Past the Tough Hurdles
Most of us who want to be Successful TV hosts know that we can and want to do it, but many times that is where the challenge begins. Probably the most important piece of advice I can share with you is that you must develop the right mindset when you decide to pursue TV Hosting.
There are literally thousands, if not millions, of people out there who want to be the overnight success story. But no matter how daunting the competition, the successful TV hosts will always be those who work the hardest, are the most talented and who understand how the business works. You must be focused on perfecting your craft, knowing what types of projects will best suit your personality and making plans to succeed.
Over the past few years, I have interviewed many successful TV hosts. As I began to compare the answers from those interviews, I saw three unique patterns that were universal in their success.
3 Mindsets of Successful TV Hosts
1. BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT
We all have unique gifts and abilities that can be turned into success. If you believe you can’t, failure will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you display a lack of self-belief when you’re auditioning and talking to the camera, audiences and casting directors will pick up on it immediately and won’t watch you or hire you.
Successful hosts are not afraid to show the world who or what they are. One of the best examples of this in recent memory is daytime talk show host Ellen Degeneres. In 1997, she was the first lead in a sitcom to openly acknowledge her homosexuality on the air. Today, she continues to embrace who she is and what she stands for, and she isn’t worried about how the world perceives her. Take the time to watch her and you’ll see what I mean. She carries a confidence about herself that is undeniable.
2. THERE IS A JOB JUST FOR YOU
There are more than enough opportunities available for you to become highly successful. Many people believe there’s “too much competition.” This stops them from trying. The truth is, there are new opportunities being created every day and the next one may be perfect for YOU. Unfortunately, many people miss the opportunities because they’re not trying to find them. You must constantly be searching for the right gig for you, and you MUST BELIEVE that it is out there waiting for you.
3. CREATE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITIES
Instead of strictly paying attention to the casting calls and auditions, sometimes you have to create your own opportunities . Those who go out and create instead of following everyone else will be the successful TV hosts getting the jobs. Successful people in any business, not just TV hosting, know this to be true. Take Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton’s advice:
“Swim upstream; go the other way. Ignore the conventional wisdom. If everybody else is doing it one way, there’s a good chance you can find your niche by going exactly the opposite direction – but be prepared for a lot of folks to wave you down and tell you you’re headed the wrong way.”
